Day 14/100

Go out to a restaurant that you’ve never been to before.

As I’m writing this, it is Sunday February 25th. Last night, my boyfriend and I went out to dinner, which is kind of a big deal. I can’t even tell you how long it’s been since we’ve gone out to a restaurant and had a date night. We went to Karl Strauss. It’s hard to believe that I’ve never eaten here before. Being a beer enthusiast, my boyfriend has been there many times.

After working in the restaurant industry for a couple years, I know and understand what it’s like to work on a Saturday night during peak hours. It can get intense and overwhelming very easily. Honestly, I was in shock by how professional all of the employees were. Every time our waiter passed by the table, he’d make sure we were doing okay and that our waters were filled. Even random waiters would come around and attend to us without being asked. They also had samples going around. Based on what you were eating at the time, a waiter would bring a beer sample over that paired well with the food. I don’t remember which beer we had, but it was sweet, light, and easy to drink – my favorite kind of beers (on the rare occasion that I drink).

unnamed-25For an appetizer, my boyfriend and I shared an order of beer pretzels. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water. They were delicious, although very salty. The cheese dip that the pretzels came with was good too, but I am sensitive to spice and couldn’t eat too much of it. At one point, my boyfriend mistook dijon mustard for the cheese dip. Does anyone eat mustard on their pretzels? That seems like an odd combo. For dinner, my boyfriend ordered the habanero jack chicken sandwich. Basically, it’s a spicy chicken ‘burger’ and the chicken was deep fried, instead of grilled. I ordered the tree hugger mac n cheese. Not only do I love the name of the entree, but who doesn’t love mac n cheese?! It’s mac n cheese made with spinach, broccoli, red peppers, and bread crumbs. Obviously I went without the peppers because I am extremely picky. It tasted amazing! I actually think that’s an understatement. Doesn’t bread crumbs baked on top of mac n cheese make it a hundred times better?!

I think it is safe to say that we will be eating there again!
