Well, well, well…I never thought I’d be in this predicament again, although I’m not really surprised.
This year I’ve started becoming particularly worried about how lethargic I feel on a daily basis and how I can just nap forever. Thyroid problems do run in my family so that was particularly worrisome. I finally decided that I’ve procrastinated enough and made my way to the doctor’s office. Good news is my thyroid levels are completely fine! Bad news is my cholesterol isn’t normal. My total cholesterol level and my LDL cholesterol level are both high. I had even higher cholesterol levels 7 years ago at 18 years old! You would think I would take a hint!
I can’t stop giggling as I write this because I still find it hilarious.
Tack this onto my other health issues and you get the diet of a rabbit. Oh boy.
Gluten-Free diet
Vegetarian diet (basically vegan)
Low-cholesterol diet
High-alkaline diet
Yep, I’m a rabbit now.
So, here are my guidelines, I guess…
- 1,800 daily caloric intake
- Max 55g of total fat intake
- Max 10g of saturated fat intake
- Max 25-35% comes from dietary fats, less than 7% coming from saturated fats
- Max 2,300mg of sodium intake (1 tsp of salt)
- No meat/Limit animal products (dairy, cheese, etc.)
- Limit intake of foods that are less than 6.5pH (acidic foods)
- Watch for gluten products:
barley, couscous, bulgur, farina, graham flour, kamut, matzo, rye, semolina, spelt, triticale, wheat, wheat germ, wheat flour, amino peptide complex, avena sativa, brown rice syrup, caramel color, cyclodextrin, dextrin, fermented grain extract, hordeum distichon, hordeum vulgare, hydrolysate, hydrolyzed malt extract, hydrolyzed vegetable protein, maltodextrin, modified food starch, natural flavoring, phytosphingosine extract, secale cereale, soy protein, triticum aestivum, triticum vulgare, vegetable protein (HVP), yeast extract
Wow, I don’t even know what 3/4 of these are, haha. - Eat foods that are high in Omega-3 fatty acids
- No alcohol
Pft, I’m sure there are more restrictions, but this is what I can find for now!
Also, I can’t forget that I now have to force myself to be more active (darn!).
This could potentially explain why I’ve been so unmotivated and have had no energy to do anything. I don’t treat my body correctly!
Please, if you have any suggestions or recipes, feel free to give them to me! Where should I shop for groceries? Sprouts? Whole Foods? Somewhere affordable!
xoxo
